Unveiling Our Vision for a Brighter Future
Six Decades of Support and a Brighter Future Ahead
For six decades, Grove Cottage has been a beacon of hope and support for individuals with learning disabilities and special additional needs in our local community. What began in 1966 as a modest initiative to bridge gaps in services has flourished into a vital lifeline for over 180 individuals and their families each year.
The Need for Change
As the landscape of Bishop’s Stortford evolves, so too does the need for accessible, comprehensive support. Recognising this, Grove Cottage embarked on a journey to secure its future and enhance its services for generations to come.
In March 2014, a pivotal stakeholder survey illuminated the pressing need for revitalisation. Feedback echoed a resounding call for a “step change” in both premises and services. Subsequent consultations in 2020 and 2021 reaffirmed Grove Cottage’s indispensable role within the community, emphasising the importance of preserving and expanding its offerings.
A Milestone Achieved
Last month, a significant milestone was reached as East Herts Council granted approval for the total rebuild of Grove Cottage’s current premises on London Road. This momentous decision sets the stage for another 60 years and beyond.
The New Building
The new building will not only meet modern health and safety standards but also prioritise accessibility and inclusivity, enabling Grove Cottage to accommodate diverse needs and activities.
Moreover, the project embodies Grove Cottage’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency, ensuring that resources are used responsibly for the benefit of both members and the broader community.
The new facility will once again be the location for our specialist nursery as well as a welcoming space for our members of all ages.
Vision for the Future
Grove Cottage trustee Kevin Davis said “Grove Cottage remains steadfast in its dedication to nurturing potential, fostering independence, and cultivating a sense of belonging. Together, we envision a future where every individual with a learning disability or special additional need thrives, supported by a community that embraces diversity and champions inclusivity”.
